Good bag for UA-5 + JB3?
« on: August 27, 2007, 01:07:22 PM »
I'm getting a bit tired of schlepping all my gear in a backpack, and having to pull it all out and put it together at shows (and often find something like a chair or a table to set it on), so I think it's time I got a decent bag for it all, that'll allow me to leave it connected (except for the mic cables) and get it going by just hooking the mics up and pressing a button or two.

The main things in the bag would be a JB3 and a UA-5 + DVD-type battery. What bag would people recommend that'd allow easy access to the front panel of the UA-5, while also allowing the JB3's screen to visible? (I'm thinking of having the UA-5 vertical, with its front panel pointing towards the ceiling, with the JB3 horizontal; is there another/better arrangement?)

I'd also want to pack my mics (Oktava MC-012s, in a small leatherette pack), mic cables, and t-bar in the bag, along with miscellaneous other stuff (small flashlight, notepad, etc.). (If there was room for other stuff, like a small collection of patch cables and adaptors, a second set of [longer] mic cables, etc., so much the better.)

Ideally, I'd want to get my hands on the bag first, to see what it was like; I'm willing to order on-line, but the store would have to be willing to ship to Canada (I live in Ottawa, Ontario). There are one or two big/good camera shops here, so a recommendation as to a camera bag would work well, I think.

Thanks!

Aloha,
Brad

I've got my UA5 in a relatively small Plano tackle bag. Home built wire rack that hold is up vertically with space behind for power in and optical out. I just sit my JB3 on top of my mic/JB3 cases on the top of the bag when it's time to roll. I couldn't be happier with it, and the best part was the sub $10 price. I'll get better pics later.

Pockets full of nickels and nothing left to eat, and I'm stuck behind a semi on Soniat Street.

The Targus rack backpack always worked great when I was running ua5>jb3.

JB3 on the top shelf Ua5 on the bottom. Then plenty of room under the bottom shelf. I'm sure you can find some pics on here somewhere.

Thanks, everybody. I think one of the larger/chain camera stores here in Ottawa carries the Lowepro line, so I'll drop by and check them out to start with.
