Topic: PS-2 HELP! Needed

ok i got a new PS-2 Today, it is the miniplug version

i am having problems getting it to work. i snap a 9V in and while i am inserting it, the leds light for a second, but once it is in place they go off. looking at levels on my deck it looks like when the led is flickering, my oktavas are outputting a signal, but when it is dark they are not.

so, does anyone know what the hell i can do to fix this? there is an external power jack, i guess i could make a connector... was hoping this would "just work " as i've got bisco tomorrow

It should just work.  The red light is a low-battery indicator.  Are you sure the battery is up to snuff?

Are they known-good batteries?  FWIW, just b/c they're new doesn't mean their good.

By mini-plug version - do you mean this is the signal into the PS-2 from the Oktavas or or the signal out to the pre/recorder?

I'd have to agree.  Those Octava's won't run as hot as the AKG's.  At least I wouldn't think so.

Ditto on the transformers - you'll likely need them.  I'm partial to the Hosa MIT-176 myself due to the flexibility of the pigtail, but others are happy with the AT ones (forget the part # just about now, it's in the archives).

thanks guys. unfortunately, this is a miniplug version, the output of the ps-2 is a stereo miniplug, not XLR's. can line transformers take 48V ? ie can i run mics > LTs > PS-2 > M1 or do i need to go Mics > PS-2 > Adapter > LTS > Adapter > M1?

Oh yeah, forgot about the mini-out on yours.  I don't believe the line transformers will pass the juice, but I'm not certain.  I'd try running mini > adapters > line transformers > adapters M1.  No first hand experience with either, though, so I can't say for certain to either.

off subject a bit, but the red light will always pop on for a sec when inserting a new batt.
