In the DR70 thread there has been mention of the settings returning to factory default which was fixed with a firmware update. If you aren't running the latest firmware then upgrade, if you are running the latest firmware then submit a bug report to Tascam. Perhaps someone who actually owns one (I don't) will post some other possible solutions.

Flipp us right on about this.  You need to upgrade to firmware version 1.11 to fix this problem.

Does the firmware effect saving the data?
I don't recall seeing that but maybe I missed it
Mics - AKG ck61/ck63 (c480b & Naiant actives), SP-BMC-2
XLR Cables - Silver Path w/Darktrain stubbies
Interconnect Cables - Dogstar (XLR), Darktrain (RCA > 1/8) (1/8 > 1/8), and Kind Kables (1/8f > 1/4)
Preamps - Naiant Littlebox & Tinybox
Recorders - PCM-M10 & DR-60D

When you say "data" are you referring to making a recording, or to settings you have changed?  The firmware update fixes a problem where changed settings would would not remain after you removed the batteries.

If you aren't even able to make a recording, that might indicate a problem with your memory card.  Or more unlikely, there may be a problem with the recorder itself.

Update the firmware and see if things improve.

im just going by what the op put, can't save data error.
Not sure if they mean data as in music or data as in just settings but on first read it sounded to me like music and secondary setting.
I'm prob wrong though as I reread it

I've had that error message on my DR-40, it refers to saving the settings file, and when I restart the recorder it creates a new system file, the audio data is saved OK.

Check your firmware on your 70d to be sure you have version 1.11 correctly installed just to be sure.  If so, your settings should be saved.  That is, if you had it set on high gain when you powered down, it should be on high gain when you power it up.  Phantom power will always ask you to confirm it when you power on.  But your other settings should be there.

Otherwise, you may need to be thinking about a warranty claim.

that's my personal opinion.

After confirming you're on 1.11 firmware, the only other thing you might try is formatting the card (using the 70D) again.  Jonmac mentioned the settings file in the System file.  The format will erase this and a new one will be generated.

Also, try a different card, again formatting it first in the recorder.
