These are feaseable now with the new LG 2600mah 18650 cells, (nominal capacity 2550mah per cell @ 3.7V)
kinda pricey when you can get a 6200mah for around $35,

I have no experience with Impact cells/packs, anyone else comment?

I too have been poking around, and have found a lot of "replacements" for the Sony batteries. Has anyone had particular good or bad luck with any of the brands.  Some of them are at least branded, i.e. Lenmar, and come with 1-3 year warranties.  Any help would be appreciated.

I just grabbed two of these;

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-NP-F930-NP-F750-NP-F530-Battery-for-Sony-Camcorder_W0QQitemZ300106273051QQihZ020QQcategoryZ43438QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Not sure how they will work, I'll report back after I run them a few times.
For the price I am not expecting much. Who knows maybe I'll get lucky.

I got one of the Impact batteries from B&H. 7600mah. I needed it in a hurry as I was leaving town for a show. Either way, so far its a good battery and from what I can tell has a long running life. 5.5+ hours. Much better than my genuine Sony when it was new, got 4.5+ hours on it.

For what it's worth, I just ran the Ebay batteries mentioned above.
The batteries came with no brand and no batch number, just marked
 " Replacement for NP-960, 7.4v 6750 mAh".

The electrical sockets were a little loose, so I glued them up a little before using. They seem good now. They both ran a few minutes past 7hrs. Better than I expected,. Now lets see how long they will continue to do that.

I gave about $45 shipped for two.

just be careful with the internal post on the battery, I have a a few problems when I remove the battery the metal on the inside of the battery will come out stuck to the 722 battery post due the them expaniing when you plug the battery in , Ive used keys to push the post back into the battery and never had a problem but if you dont relaiize it problems could occur.

I have been successful in applying a small amount of CA glue to the posts as when come out of the battery and then push them back in.  They no longer pop back out.

That's exactly what I did. I pulled them out as far as I could with a jeweler's pick, spread a little super glue on them, and then pushed them back in. The seem pretty secure now.
Time will tell.

I use the stock battery that came with my 744T as backup only, and I carry a NiMh battery pack for primary power. My full rig will run a minumum of 7 hours on the NiMh; that's mic system, 744T (recording 4 tracks at 24/192), CRD420, and task lighting (intermittent cellular phone charging as well).
Obviously, this is not a "stealth" rig, but I have yet to run out of power, and my max draw is around 45 watts at 14.4v. This includes power for burning files to DVD and CDR after a show.
I considered Lithium Ion chemistry, because it has amazing power density, and it is extremely inexpensive, but the tendency for the voltage to spike during discharge, and the sensitivity to humidity, as well as the precautions one must take while charging and the cost of good chargers for Li cells made me choose the NiMh.
Soon though, Lithium Ion will be the chemistry of choice, and I look forward to not carrying the extra weight and physical size.

"If humans matured as quickly as technology, we could fix this world." ---- A visionary.
ST-350, 744T, CRD420, PSC Cart Power, Neutrik Lemo and Hirose connectors, Mogami Neglex cabling, Shure tripod, Impact sandbags, Tenergy NiMh power, Portabrace and Pelican casing.
This rig sounds like crystal and chocolate; I'm in love.

Actually, i am in the process of building a new power pack right now (the old one wasn't pretty, but it worked). When it is finished, I shall post pictures.  ;D

Got mine Friday from B&H. Charged it 15 hours overnight, ran the battery dead, charged it Saturday night for 15 hours, ran it tonight for a 2 hour show. The 722 reported 8.0 when I turned it on and 2 hours later it was at 7.6. So far it looks like a good battery.
