What program do you use for ..

Bought a HD camera recently mainly for filming rock shows...

My question: What software do you folks use for editing the video and bring it to DVD format? Since I also tape the audio of the shows I go to seperately with my big rig (neumann mics,..) I also want to be able to import this hq audio and sync it with the video portion of the gig for a perfect result.

Is there a program that can do all this, easy to use and understand and doesn`t cost a fortune??

BTW: The next shows I`ll tape both audio and video are two or three of the upcoming european TESLA dates...

what kind of comp? for a mac you can use iMovie/iDVD to do all that stuff and its free
or you can got up and use final cut and studio pro

No, it`s a normal ntebook (windows XP).

My hd camcorder is a JV GZ-MG50, btw.

Transfering audio to harddisk is no problem, done that for years and years. But I just recently acquired this extra small harddisk camcorder and want to tape rock/metal shows with it.My big audio rig is currently Neumann KM140s > Apogee MiniMe > Sony PCMD50/Korg MR-1.

if you don't already...
try and record the audio in 48 because thats what dvds use so dubbing is easier vs 44.1 or anything else

Since you have a harddisk model camcorder - that adds a level of difficulty to the matter.  The video on the HD is already encoded to mpeg2, and you want to avoid having to re-encode it.  So keep that in mind when looking for a way to edit your video/synch with higher quality audio.

Well, thanks for the hint here..

I now bought the Sony Vegas and Sony DVD Architect off german ebay and will tape two TESLA shows next week..Hope to be able to work with both the new software and hardware for this...never synced video and audio, too...

I use Final Cut Studio (Final Cut Pro for editing, DVD Studio Pro for DVD authoring).

PC only if you want to make BluRays with menus.  macs can't do that.  I use Vegas and DVD Architect.

You can author Blu-ray disk on the Mac using Adobe's Encore and burn them through a 3rd party Blu-ray burner.

The user in that thread seems to have a problem with the burner itself (at least, that's what he says in his last post).

The process of burning a Blu-ray disc on a Mac, using Encore, successfully is well documented in this article.

if you have a bluray burner you can also use toast on a mac
i don't havwe one so i am not sure how it works or if its any good though

burning blu rays on a mac is not an issue.  FCP can export a blu ray set.  Toast can burn the set.  Authoring the menus is the issue.  Previous link was not very good but if you search you will see the problems.


I use Vegas Video and DVD Architect.
