Disk Image of DVD on Windows XP?
« on: April 15, 2005, 09:56:12 AM »
I have a DVD that I created on the Mac (It's a training session from work, nothing exciting), most of us here at work don't have DVD drives in our computers (in fact I think less than 5 people have them). On the Mac I can create a discimage of the DVD, throw that up on a server and let people download the image and have it mount on their desktop like it was a real disc. Or I can simply place the TS_VIDEO directory on a drive and point Apple's DVD Player to that folder and it works like there was a disc in the drive.

Is there a way to do either (or both) on Windows XP?

There is software called winimage and a few others you can use to mount an ISO disc image.

I think power dvd can handle vob files but i'm not sure.  i don't have anything with me to test but i think i remember playing a movie this way

MK 4V > KCY 250/5 Ig (KS 10I)  > VST62IUg > 722

oh yea windows doesn't have DVD playback capability by default so if these guys are locked down and don't have some sort of third party codec installed you will have to get IT involved.

daemon tools can also mount most any type of image.  but ya, they will need the DVD codec to play the image...

Yes PowerDVD 5 and up will play .vob files.   If you are looking at distributing this over a network I would use VideoLAN.  Free, fairly bug free, has ability to stream over a network and last but not least IDIOT-PROOF!

If you would prefer for people to use WMP then I would just install the DVD codecs provided in the Klite Mega Codec Pack.
