ALD Recording
« on: July 04, 2009, 01:15:07 AM »
I've always wanted to find a way to get soundboard recordings of shows. I've heard there's a way with ALD (Assisted Listening Devices). Now some say you have to request these at the venue, but one person was able to record with an ALD to the hardisk recorder from the parking lot and get the soundboard feed. How could you do this???? Any info on recording with an ALD would be great.

I think ALD = Assisted Listening Device
not Assisted Living Device (i.e. like a portable Nursing Home or something)

From what I have read about these is that 5-10 or so years ago you could come away with a SBD recording but now adays they mess with the sound to make it only usable if you want to spend alot of time editing the final recording - Probably depends on the band and/or venue though.

It's usually a mono, lifeless mix.  An ALD recording can be good when matrixed with an audience recording.

Recordings can be made of wireless mixes obtain from shortwave radios.  This became popular when bands switched to in-ear wireless monitor systems.
