Front Loading Gear Bags?
« on: June 11, 2013, 06:20:25 PM »
in my latest search for a "new and improved" gear bag i find myself looking at front-loading fishing tackle bags with a separate and isolated horizontal top pocket.  so far i've only found two that look to be viable, but the reviews indicate that the zippers are cheap and there are some issues with the material.

anyone have any experience with front-loading bags?  seems like having a big front-loading pocket for gear storage and an easily accessible top pocket for your recorder and pre-amp during the show would be a nice set-up.

Very interesting.  Are there actual shelves?  Or are the plastic boxes "shelves"?

Sounds like you need a Rackgear pack - they don't make them anymore but they where great back in the day

I ran nt222 > ad1000 > da-p1 and it fit great even with all the SLA's in the bottom

the Browning has shelves; the XPS does not.  there is a Browning for sale on eBay with a picture of the shelves (http://www.ebay.com/itm/230990787265?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649).

Looks a little small tho. Hell, that might not even hold my TINY Schoeps setup ;) But Cabela's makes quality stuff IMO, so its probably well built :)

Is it? If I didn't have way too many bags, I would buy one,

i worked on getting the new bag organized this weekend and it's coming together nicely.  in the top compartment alone i can easily fit:

- two (2) Pelican 1060 cases (mic bodies and capsules)
- Aerco MP-2
- Edirol R-44
- Sony M-10
- Bixnet BP160 battery (it's a big sucker!)
- Battery Geeks 9/12-66
- Tekkeon 3450i
- four (4) Rycote shock mounts
- four (4) 15' XLR cables
- delrin bar with risers
- a roll of gaff tape
- battery cables and interconnects
- windscreens
- media case with extra SD and micro SD cards

i've got everything i need for a whole weekend of taping in the top compartment.  anything i put in the bottom compartment is a bonus.

That's awesome. Can you please give me the interior dimensions? I may grab one for indoor venues where I want to run my 4 channel schoeps setup in one bag ;)

Thanks in advance,
Bean
