Yeah, you need a lunchbox or similar chassis and most/all of those are AC. I've thought about doing this before with the Neve or Great River stuff but it never materialized due to that.
Am I reading right that it needs 16V? Seems bit tough to power in the field
Depends. I used to think so too until I ran a sonosax which worked best the more you fed it (up to 24v). Granted, some things like that hsp82 which require 9-16 is tough because of the amperage. I don't know what you'd need in terms of running a 500 series module, but I bet it's not power efficient.
