  • I'm a llama!
I recently taped a show and set recording levels a little too high, resulting in slightly overloaded and messy sound at some louder points (see joined waveform).

Still, I think the tape can be enjoiable (and I'm very picky about audience tapes, especially when it comes to distorted material).
Applying gentle bass roll-off filter in post, also, seems to increase the listening experience a bit.

Left channel volume is about 3dB lower than right channel, so it suffers less.
Edit: with a closer look at left channel's waveform, I can tell about 75% of the recording is actually below the 0dB peak.

Since this is a binaural recording made with a pair of omnis, do you think I should only keep left channel and copy/paste it to right channel ?

Or do you think I should just leave it as it is or even not sharing it ?

Here's a sample of the most distorted part of the recording with NO bass roll-off applied (24/48 wav file - 10 Mo) : http://uplea.com/dl/F364FA8B1E1062E

Some other fast-paced songs got played that night and turned out to sound better than this, which is the worst one.

For you to compare, here's another sample where left channel is not overloading. NO bass roll-off applied (24/48 wav file - 16 Mo) : http://uplea.com/dl/C057510F323F9EE

Let me know what you think,
Thanks ;)

I have heard far far worse.  I listened to the first "more distorted" sample and it still sounds better than a lot of what is posted on Dime.

I'd probably dupe the undistorted channel, yes.
