Stereoblade MkIII

Cross-posting this from GS:

Many here will remember the video of the Stereoblade motorized mic positioning system using MKH 8020 and 8040 mics:

I see that they now have a new video up with a larger chamber orchestra and choir in a very reverberant church:

More info on the system:

I think the original video may be more revealing of the differences between the different arrays.  For that ensemble in that small chapel, I don't like the sound of any of the spaced arrays.  I like ORTF best there.  (I also just noticed that they failed to reverse L/R when moving to X/Y; they could have fixed that in post.)

For the Mk III video, there's so much reverb and they linger on each array so briefly that it makes comparison more difficult.  I think the wide spaced omnis are very unfocused, but they skipped over narrow spaced omnis which might have worked.  I suppose I liked the EBS and NOS best in this one, but you don't get any choir with the NOS segment so it's not a fair comparison.

I realize that this is just promotion for their system, but it's an interesting way to compare different omni and cardiod arrays.  Now, if they could have the whole stand scoot around on three motorized wheels like R2-D2, that would really be something!
I am hitting my head against the walls, but the walls are giving way.
