V2 Power Cable question (semi urgent)
« on: August 01, 2017, 06:49:34 PM »
So Im sitting here looking at one of the very first V2 ever made by Grace. It has a 4 pin XLR power connector. The cable I have used to be run to an old eco-charge battery 12v. Does anyone recall if the old BP series Eco;'s had something special with the cable diagram ? I seem to recall a cross or something that stop it from working with the 6v or something.

I ask because I plugged in in to my newer series eco charge batteries EC90 and no lights. nothing. nothing on 6 or 12

I dont have anything else to test the power with that I can think of. suggestions welcomed.

Ted I was hoping you would chime in. Am I remembering correctly about the differences between the two eco battery models ?

12v v2 have pin 1 negative, pin 4 positive
6v v2 have pin 2 negative, pin 3 positive

And is it a jumper like in the V3 or hard wired ?

Not sure about the eco charge batts but my guess is your v2 is a 12v model.

ted if you have a second can you take a look at this and maybe it makes sense to you

http://www.taperssection.com/reference/pdf/Manual_EcoChargeEC90.pdf

It talks about 12v being industry standard but something different about the regulated circuit and a jumper to pin 4 or something

Ok, you v2 must be 6v then which is pin2 -, pin 3+.

the power cord is def setup for 6v confirmed by inspecting the ends,

so does the link suggest standard 6v wiring wont work but need something special on the eco side ?

You would need 6v config on the v2 side and 12v config on the battery side.  6v V2's have a range of 6-12v so this should work just fine.

Ted will you be in NYC Friday or Sat for Phish ? And if so can you build me a cable ? Ill ask you to build it regardless but was wondering if you were coming down for shows.

Kinds, did you figure out this cable/battery question?

The answer is yes. I recently ran a 6v Grahman Patten DMIC 20 off the 6v side a few weeks ago. And recalled that had no issue. So i opened that cable and there is indeed a jumper on the batter side besides 2&3 on that cable. So there is a special jumper needed to engage the 6v side of an eco-charge battery.

So just a matter of getting new cable. V2 is more than likely fine. the older eco batteries did not have this protective arrangement it seems.
