Topic: Left Channel Drop Out During Recording

Hi,

Recorded a gig last night in Birmingham, England and noticed that for 15 minutes during the recording, there was silence in the left channel.

My question is, using Audacity, how do I go about using the right channel sound to replace the silence in the left channel?

I have never had this issue before so am unsure the best way to do it.

Any help is much appreciated.

Here are instructions for what I would do, using Audacity 2.1.0 on a mac, though it should only be different on a PC or Linux machine because mac's "command-B" break  is done by using "control-B" on the PC and I don't have a linux box handy.




1 - Import your file to Audacity
2 - click on the downward-pointing triangle to the right of the track name to get to the HIDDEN SECRET MENU with the important stuff, and choose SPLIT STEREO TRACK
3 - zoom in on the start of the first gap. Keep zooming. All the way in. Down to the last spot where the audio is good, and the signal crosses the horizontal Zero line.
4 - click right on that spot. in the bad channel
5 - go to TRACKS > ADD LABEL AT SELECTION (or you can type COMMAND - B on the mac, or CONTROL - B on the PC to activate this)
6 - (you can name the spot if you want but you might not care)
7 - Zoom out, find the end of the gap or glitch, and zoom in on it. All the way in. Click there. ADD LABEL AT SELECTION using mouse or keyboard.
8 - Zoom out.
9 - click in the "title" box for the first LABEL you created, at the start of the gap.
10 - Select the area you wish to copy: hold down the shift-key and drag your cursor OVER THE INTACT TRACK to the right, until you reach the other LABEL point. When you get there, the vertical position line will turn yellow. Let go of the mouse there.
11 - EDIT > COPY (or type COMMAND - C on the Mac, CONTROL-C on windoze)
12 - Select the area you wish to replace (remember what you did in step 10? this is the similar move): click in the "title" box for the first LABEL you created, and hold down the shift-key and drag your cursor over the BAD(!) TRACK to the right, until you reach the other LABEL point. When you get there, the vertical position line will turn yellow. Let go of the mouse there.
13 - EDIT > PASTE
14 - SAVE YOUR WORK
15 - läther
16 - rinse
17 - repeat from step 2
18 - When you have them all, then go back to that Hidden Downward-Pointing Triangle Menu from step 2 and MAKE STEREO TRACK
19 - SAVE YOUR WORK
