UA-5. 4 mic mix questions
« on: October 22, 2004, 09:14:13 AM »
i read this http://www.taperssection.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=5968.0
and some other posts.  In order to do a 4 mic mix you would need
Mics>phantom power>line transformer (2?)> RCA
You would then listen to find the rca level, by cutting power to xlr mics.
Then You would fill in the xlrs, until your meter is in the desirable location.

Am I missing anything?  What are the pro's and con's?  If anyone runs this about what position is the rca set at.  Thanks.

ive never done the 4 mic mix, but i did a 3 mic mix several times

i ran a nak cm300 (internally battery powered) > xlr > line transformer, also xlr > 1/4" > 1/4' to rca > rca splitter to dual mono in the rca's

i basically just ran the nak input all the way up, and adjusted the phantom to my gefell m300s to get desired levels

Yeah, you've got it short and sweet. Can't really say where to set the rca line knob. Will vary by room volume and the sensitivity of your mics.

And yeah, you need a transformer for each mic. It not only provides gain, but unbalances the signal.

I do suggest you get hemostats or jeweler's tweezer to turn the knob though. With rca and optical cables connected it is tough to get your fingers in there. Even worse if you have it in a bag.
