DPA MMA6000 Low Battery Operation

I seem to be getting better than two hours of operation of the MMA6000 after the red low battery light starts flashing, at least in a bench test, powering the 4060 mics but not recording.  Has anyone run this in the field, and does low battery running have any sonic effects?  I am using a standard Energizer 9V cell.
