Sony pcm-r300 question....
« on: September 02, 2003, 05:53:16 PM »
why is it flashing an "err" error sign in the top right corner when I play a dat? It doesnt happen to all, I think it may have to do with the levels but they dont even reach 0 (at least most of the time and if they do they dont hit it 3 consecutive times)
thanks in advance for the help
Kevin ;D

I forget the trick that shows you how many hours. However, if this happens on a majority of tapes, then I would suspect you got ripped off and the unit needs to be repaired. This sounds like the classic R300 reel replacement problem. (there is a small gear that goes bad, Paul at Pro Digital can tell you more about the problem, and he and his crew can fix it, but most R300 owners I know have had to have their deck repaired for this problem -- including me).

If it is only happening on one of your tapes,  it may be a problem with the tape.  I also have a PCM-R300 and have only seen the dreaded red err light a few times,  and it was with a tape that I knew had problems (it got eaten and I tried fixing it)

I wouldn't worry about it if it is only the 1 tape
