I've been noticing some torrents going up on bt.etree with this trans. Just curious what the reasoning is behind doing this. If your source is 16 bit why jump to 24 then back to 16?
thanks
george

there is no reasoning george, unless the seeders are in the business of wasting time.

generally, I agree with you.  although if you've got a 16 bit source and you want to do a lost of post-processing work on your computer, I'd say its better to work with an internal resolution of 24 or 32 bits, and then apply dither once, at the end, to get yourself back to 16 bit.

however, based on the torrents that I think you're talking about, that doesn't seem to be the case, in which case I agree with Tim - seems pointless to me.

Thanks
Tim, off the top of my head not sure which ones. But as I recall some older shows.

There were a lot of GD torrents recently by the same person that had this lineage: DAT (analog out) > 24 bit A/D > HD > dither to 16 bit

Several people made the attempt to convince the seeder to do a digital transfer of the DATs to the computer and that it's pointless to introduce another digital > analog > digital step into the lineage, but without luck.
