MBHO-MBP603A+ KA N200 or KA N400
« on: July 19, 2011, 05:04:12 AM »
Hi,
I have a question about the mbp603A (CARDIOD)

Is it possible to power The screwable capsule+capsule attachement with mini XLR cable directly into a tinybox or something else  without the MBP603A preamp?
What the difference with a MBP 648 A ?
MAx SPL is 130db what do you think about it?Is it enough because I record pop, rock ,indie concerts (small and large venue).

Last question :)
MBHO-MBP603A cardiod or Milab vm-44 link ?? what's the best choise?
Thanks in advance one more time for your help !

The mic. body is an integral part of the microphone, it is not an option.

However, MBHO do several choices of body.

Personally I would go for MBHO over Milab, I think; but both are excellent.

It's not an option at this very moment, but Jon's working on that. He mentioned that he's circulating a test box in the near future.

Yep, totally possible to build a 603a body replacement (ala jklabs). I'm not sure what the FET voltage requirements are for the MBHO's, but it should be fairly similar to most everything else.

You should probably take a listen to some recordings from both mics and decide what you like.  I've owned MBHO 603a's before and frankly they did nothing for me. There are others on our local CO Crew who love them. Me, I greatly prefer the Milabs.

Overall, Archive.org is a great place to listen to some samples.  Last year's 9-25-2010 Furthur show at Red Rocks is up at archive.org, including both Matt's Milab>Lunatec V2>Tascam 680 source and Foelske's MBHO>Lunatec V3>Tascam 680 source.  Very similar sources other than the mics -- should be a good comparison listen to see if you like the Milabs over MBHOs.  Probably a good idea to dig around and find more shows like this with both Milab and MBHO sources up.

Thank you very much for your help :)
I'm going to try with "/www.archive.org" it's a very good idea:)

The MBHO seems close to the schoeps sound (for my ears). I may be find a good deal and price for the MBP603a without the preamp body.
2x KA N200 (cardiod) + cables + 2xHolders capsules  around 900€ (1230$)

I have a tinybox as PREAM

Any news on this? Would be nice if the mic-body can be skipped. Then again, are these mics sold without?
