Now, what would be the problem with its  TRS outputs? What am I missing? ;-)

I'm guessing most here have XLR interconnects it would require new interconnects and (on my recorder) TRS is not locking...

Also RME tend to run two different families of pre-amps
Fireface 800, Octamic, Quadmic are all similar.

Most of the newer interfaces (Micstacy, Fireface 400/UC, Fireface UFX) use the TI PGA2500 which is digitally controlled and very clean. It's also in a few other products around including the Apogee Duet and MOTU Traveler Mk3
Nice to see this chip getting into products.  Much better than the typical NJM opamps we see in most gear.
