Hey guys,
I currently have a R-09hr and use my SD 302 as my mixer/preamp for recordings with my AKG480 CK61/63/69 mic kit and get great results.
For situations where I don't want to lug my SD 302 and I need to be more stealthy and still use a single AKG mic, I'm wondering if I use a church preamp with an XLR to stereo mini adapter into my R09HR would that allow me to use one of my AKG 480 and capsule with decent results?
Any suggestions? Especially from team AKG who use the R-09HR.
Thanks in advance!

the Grace Pre adds a nice sound with all the AKGs that I have owned
which I am getting with my V3 going SP/DIF into my Tascam
with an R-09HR you can get good results with a V2 since it has RCA outs
but you will need external power and may be a bit big for lo-pro
although I have never ran one, the Aerco MP-2 is also highly recommended
by other owners with various models of AKGs
and is a smaller sized pre that CAN run off 3 internal 9 volts as well as external power
to my knowledge the Chuch pre will not provide 48 volts of phantom power
which is what your 480s need to run
welcome to team AKG

I can't answer your question about the Church preamp, but for low profile, it doesn't get any better than an Aerco, as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks guys!
The Aerco MP-2 sounds like a real winner but $750 is up there for me and I already have the SD302. Just checking to see if there was an under $500 mic pre that can be low profile and be used in the field. Or anyone selling their aerco mp-2? ;D

Though not low pro, I dig AKG~> mini-me/mp tapes.

I've been fluffing Naiant's products for a while, and there is no reason to stop now.
Jon will have an inexpensive, small, high quaility instrumentation amp based microphone preamp that will provide 48v DC phantom power with your choice of RCA and or stereo 1/8" and or XLR outputs very soon. For right around $200.

if you find one it will prob be $740

Natient's preamp sounds pretty interesting and for only $200 I'm willing to try it out. :)
Thanks guys for your input as always!

have you thought about the Sound Devices MP-1 (if you're just gonna use 1 mic)?

That's what I was thinking, he only wants to use one mic and not the pair. And some of the suggestions are either bigger or the same size as what he already has.

Actually, the Sound Devices MP-1 might not be a bad option too..
Since the preamp will handle 48v phantom power for my output I can go XLR to stereo mini plug to my SD302 correct? I just want to double check.
I may still wait for the new naiant littlebox preamp since that will be coming just around he corner.
