MP-2/Mixpre Recharge Mod
« on: March 10, 2005, 12:57:10 PM »
OK, I own a Shure FP-24 the same as the mixpre, however it does not work on rechargables.  Shure will not mod it and I am told Sound Devices will not either.  does anyone know if there is a way to hack this to be done on one's own?  I am in europe so shipping it to them even if they would fix it would be a proposition, and after my adventures with the mail here, no thanks.

Not the answer for which you're looking, but I'd call and keep calling Shure, escalating as able, until I found someone willing to help fix a known problem with their product.

Thanks Brian, as always I appreciate your input.  +T

If it has to come to that so be it, but if was curious if it was something I could do myself, knowing that its such a cheap repair I didn't think that it could be too involved, maybe sticking a wad of tinfoil in a place or something.  :P  I also may try bothering Sound Devices as I have thrown them some business for items when I worked with my college radio and TV station and try that as leverage.

sound devices is probably not allowed to touch these as per the OEM agreement...I know for the equipment that we OEM, rebadged with our label, the original manufacturer is contractually barred from servicing it

Not all of them do.  Some require a mod.  I forget at which serial no the MP2 started supporting rechargeables w/o the mod, but it's in a post around here somewhere.

Apparently the FP-24 needed a mod somewhere around there too, nice to know. I thought it was free and clear as all mixpres should be

you could do this... take an exacto and cut away the plastic cover to expose more of the metal on the (+) nub on the AA.  that's all it is.

So basically the spring inside the FP-24 needed to be smaller, to hit the contacts on the batteries, so if the contact ont he batteries is enlarged it will be free and clear?  let me give this a shot.  HUGE +T to you marc
