Electronics suppliers - building a battery box
« on: July 02, 2007, 07:24:47 PM »
I've decided to do some surgery on my Giant Squids. First, I want to transplant the guts of the battery box from its big, ugly, metal enclosure into a slightly smaller, ugly, plastic enclosure. Then I need to detach the mics, wire them to a plug, and add a couple jacks and a switch to the new enclosure. This is fairly simple stuff, even for someone like me who hasn't touched a soldering iron in years, but the problem is that I don't know where to go to buy the components. I'd rather order online than try to rummage around a Radio Shack.

I found this wonderfully organized site:
http://www.rapidonline.com/home.aspx

But they're located in the UK, and charge obscene prices to ship to the US. I almost like Allied Electronics, but they only offer one kind of 3.5mm jack, and it's not one I particularly want. Any advice other than the blind Googling I've been doing would be appreciated.

Oh yeah, and strangely enough, DigiKey has plenty of 3.5mm stereo jacks, but only one plug.
