So, am I losing a lot of headroom or detail or anything by running my active setup on 24v on my 70D? I run my MKxx>NBob KCY>LittleBox on LOW power all of the time, and according to Jon from Naiant, I am only losing 1db of headroom running at +16v(I think) LOW power on my LB! So is this also true with a PFA setup? Would I be alright running it at +24v? Because Id probably save a good deal of battery from it, according to the 70D Reference Manual 8)

Thanks for any and all info you can give me!

Just get one of these and never worry about battery power again!

  • So now I wander over grounds of light...
Bean:

Run it at 48v. If you're stressed about run times, buy another usb battery. The internal AA's will allow you to swap with ease.

4-day long music festivals means lots of batteries and if you can stretch them, it's nice to know what are the exact trade-offs.  So, it's nice to know the answers to these questions in order to make informed decisions about buying additional batteries versus running at a lower phantom voltage.

So, following up on some of the responses...the CMC6 body can operate at either 12V or 48V.  Does the CMC6 still provide a full 60V polarization voltage if phantom voltage is 12V?

If not, then why would it be a problem if the PFA doesn't provide full polarization voltage at either 12V or 48V phantom?

Because it already has a lower polarization voltage of I think 43V when running P48!

OK, thanks gents.

One final question.  Is the polarization from CMRs higher than one would expect the voltage to be from PFAs at 24V?

My question is:

Is there a big disadvantage to running my mkxx>KCY>PFA>70D on 24v power? Versus running at 48V power?

EDIT: Forget the Littlebox. I just mentioned it because I run it at LOW power as well. Im concerned about running my PFA>70D on 24v power if it gets me extra runtime at festies!

Well, you can continue this discussion and everyone will give you their opinion, or you could just set it up both ways and listen for yourself.

The question is, if the results you perceive from listening lead you to a conclusion that's different from what people are suggesting in the responses, do you think the theory and discussion about headroom and noise floor carries more weight than what you hear?  That's a decision you'll need to make for yourself.
