Topic: 4 channel recording mics out of phase question

I didn't quite get this answered clearly after my LA trip last year.  I ran 4 mics both pair at approximately 90 degrees. Left 2 channels perfect...the right 2 channels seemed to cancel each other out at least to thin the signal greatly. Panning left in post sounded great...the opposite panning right.

  To check myself, I checked my cable with a meter, etc finding no issues. I had used them both many times just wanted to check.  Is there a rule of them about what the closest proximaty that your mics can be to each other?

  Any comments of pics would be appreciated.

I think you meant to attach an image - it did not come through.  All 4 mics into your 744?

Are you certain that polarity wasn't flipped on two of the channels, or that they were recorded with pans set incorrectly?

Also, if you are able to post a sample of all 4 tracks, we might be able to find out something from them.

Yes it was v-2 + 744T

How would the polarity be flipped?  I don't think I changed anything, and I'm not sure I understand the pan setting you refer to . Levels were fine etc.

I will see if I still have the problematic files. I ended up fixing it by copying the good channels in post.

Have you zoomed in on the wavs to make sure there is a polarity issue? Instead of copying the channels over you might be able to invert the polarity of one of the right channels.

What physically would cause that?  I've recorded 4 channel before no issue. Would mic placement too close to each other cause that? Sorry my terminology isn't more technical, but this has been making me crazy. Like I said I checked cable polarity with a meter and found nothing odd with any setting on v2 or 744T

  I am now trying a pair at 90 degrees NOS on top of the large Nbob bar with a pair 90 NOS under.  480's top...460 ck1 lower.

I seem to recall there was a polarity issue on the V2 or V3 that required a trip back to the shop. I maybe misremembering about the V2 but i am almost positive about the V3. I dont think it was ever a big deal for most doing 2 channels. but i think it was discovered with multichannel recording.

EDITED: Seems to be a V3 issue. I dont see it with the V2 listed
