Topic: Vertical Smearing

I think that's what it's called.  see pic.  if not please correct me.

ok so how do i get reduce my chances of this.  due to my position sometimes and my preference for up close-ness, my location often puts me in a position where i'll be shooting at a spotlight.

anyone have any tips on reducing the occurance of this vertical nuisance,  besides moving your location.  lowering the exposure works sometimes, but at the same time i don't want the picture to get any darker than it has to be.  are there any filters that would help?

I've seena  lot of things with this (check out Nirv 10/25/90.. all over the place). I alwasys thought it was just from one of the lights hitting the lens at a funny angle.
You should post this on DV.com too .... mebby one of those guys might know a way around it.
