Here's the instructions: http://www.sounddevices.com/notes/recorders/drive-replacement/

The 7-series can address up to 2TB per: http://www.sounddevices.com/download/guides/xlsata_en.pdf

I pulled the drive from my 744T when it failed, and haven't picked up a replacement yet.  It works fine as a 704T (ie: CF only) for now.  The only advice I have is this -- do not pick up the unit itself while the top lid is removed.  Aligning just the top is easy.  Trying to align more pieces of this puzzle is a lot harder and may result in excessive swearing.

Schoeps MK21,MK4,MK41,MK41V,MK8 > CMC5/Naiant Tinybox/PFAs > Sound Devices 744T, Sony PCM-M10
DPA 4060 (CS HEB) > SD 744T, M10

Be sure you order a 2.5" PATA drive unless you plan to also upgrade to a 2.5" SATA drive and then you will also need the XL-SATA adapter from SD.
I don't know just where I'm going
But I'm gonna try for the kingdom, if I can
