akg 460 serial #s?
« on: June 21, 2005, 07:17:00 PM »
Hey, I'm just wondering about how old my mics are. If you know exactly when your mics were purchased and wanna provide partial serial numbers, I can maybe get I feel for when mine were originally purchased.

I have two brand new caps but one was manufactured in april 2005, the other in october 2003 according to the frequency charts. I hope they will sound alright together.

My 460s are: 21078, 20913

I'd check, but I have no idea on the dates.  I'd bet that most people here don't know when their mics were originally purchased.   As 460's are older, many have been through at least one pair of hands or more before getting to their current owners, like me.

the 62 caps I just picked up don't have a date per se listed, or I don't understand it.
It shows a c9 on both caps for date.
1 serial is 9896 the other 9954
No time to dig out the bodies to check numbers at the moment.
the body/61 case had the chart dated 8-18-97 still gotta get the numbers though.,

bumping an old thread here... i just aquired two akg 460 bodies from 2 different sources.  they both have the vertical switch (instead of the older style with 3 horizonal ones) but they are way off in regards to serial numbers.  infact the lower number has a different placement of the akg logo.. it is a little smaller and higher up near the where the cap is located.

27345

any akg phreaks know if i will have any issues running mics that far apart.... i imagine probably not, they are german (well almost  ;) ).   i am just more concerned if the guts inside the mics were drastically different being that far apart.  and therefore the sound would be colored odd.

cheers

You should be fine.  They will probably be off in db's a bit, but you should be able to fix that with your pre.  If & when you ever send them for the JW Mod, the "guts" will all be replaced and they will be more closely matched.

bro..you need to check with akg when the mics were calibrated. the serial numbers won't say anything, for instance i bought a factory direct m20 capsule 2 years ago and it had a lower serial number than my other,
so yeah check with akg :)

I would not count on that.  Not to mention that much of the difference could be in the capsules.

True in regards to the capsules, but I think Jeromejello's question was direct more towards the bodies that are so far apart in SN's.
