Title: "Reissue" tubes
Post by: ducati on February 23, 2005, 08:56:35 AM
Has anyone had any experience with the GrooveTubes Mullard 12AX7 reissue or the TungSol (New Sensor) 6550 reissue?

Just wondering how well they stock up, sonically, vs. the originals.

I'm not expecting them to match the originals in every way--but close would rock for their price!

EI also mfgs a copy of the telefunken smooth plate 12AX7, I have 1 but have only used it in a guitar amp not my pre, maybe one of these days i'll drop it in my pre and do a side by side comparison of a real telefunken smooth plate with an EI copy...

I'm grabbing a set of those Ei's, I'll burn 'em in and post thoughts in a month or so...

Ah, what the hell.  I'll review these reissues...  I grabbed:
4 TungSol 6550 reissues
3 Groove Tubes 12AX7 Mullard reissues
3 Ei Gold 12AX7's (the Telefunken smoothplate reissues)
3 Sovtek 5751's (not a reissue, but I've been interested in trying some 5751s)

Will do.  Expect a LONG lag time, tho, as that's alot of tube-rolling and I like to give them time to burn in and settle first.  I'll post thoughts as I finish the testing of each new tube :)
