Metal Detectors
« on: June 27, 2015, 11:41:45 AM »
Attended show recently and they were using metal detectors on people coming in.
I wasn't recording but wondered if detector would pick up deck, Battery box and CA-11's?

I'd just wind the mics around your bbox and take it all out when they're wanding you.  They're looking for weapons, not taping gear.  If you're really worried about it, pretend you're talking into your deck and they won't know it from a cell phone.  The wrapped up mics look like ipod ear buds.

Haha! Some of those wands really don't pick up anything. The big standup detectors are very sensitive though.

I just show the PCM-M10 to the security. They think it's a point-and-shoot camera.

In this era they are worried about guns/machetes  and pro camera/video gear, not our little hi-fi digital gizmos.

I went to a Stones show and had my gear with me.  I coiled the mike cords tightly and sandwiched the roll between my palm and my phone.  I held the recorder in my other hand.  When I got to the security guard who was wanding everyone as we came in, I had the items in my hands and I held my hands up in a "please wand me" pose.  The guard said, "there ya go, you know just how to do it."  Quick pass up and down, and I was in.

Earbuds around phone or recorder is the best way to do it.  Crotched everything once and it set off the big and wand but they accepted belt buckle as the reason. Nobody cared
