Topic: 24 bit for my car

Looking at putting a new system in my car.  Since I'm pulling everything in 24 bit, it only makes since to listen to it that way.  I've surfed around and I don't see anything out there that says it supports 24 bit.  Is that because any/all DVD car players are 24 bit??  I've seen some players that state they "convert analog to digital", but nothing that says I can get fully support 24 bit audio.

That works pretty well.  The cabinet used to be the fridge, but it still has the original door for the stock look.

Indeed I do have 24bit playback in my car! The one thing to keep in mind is that the Alpine decks will play a DVD-V audio disc (I.E. one made with Audio DVD Creator) and does not recognize a DVD-A... No big deal of course as they are both capable of 24/96 and such. Let me know if you have any other questions.

It is far more convenient to just be able to pop in a disc and you can have a much larger selection at one time. You don't have to worry about batteries or figuring out some sort of cigarette lighter power solution. Finally, and most importantly, the sound quality is going to be much better with a head unit with 24bit D/A processors directly decoding a DVD-A (or 24bit audio DVD-V as the case may be) compared with the D/A in a recorder run through a mini>mini, RCA>mini, etc. In general the shorter the signal path is, the better and a head unit that can directly play DVD's is going to have the shorter signal path.

Looks like that model isn't out anymore.  I found this one: JVC KD-DV5300 though.  Seems to have the same limitation about DVD-Audio but does DVD-Video playback and they say it sports a 24bit decoder.

My Alpine deck has been replaced with the DVA-9965 DVD/CD/MP3/WMA Tuner head unit. According to the Alpine website it has 24bit processing. It appears to be the direct decedent of my head unit with the exception that it appears to also play true DVD-Audio discs .

Edit: Just noticed that they listed the retail price as $1,600.00... this has got to be a typo. I'm guessing that the deck probably lists for about $1,000.00 (or less) as mine was about $450.00 2 years ago. While they certainly added a number of features on the DVA-9965 compared to mine, there is still no way that it sells for $600.00 more than their touch screen models.

I agree was just wondering if it is easier to find head units with quality AUX inputs v. 24 Bit playback. And not all 24 Bit recorders cost thousands of dollars.

You could just get one of the flip put touch screen Alpines... they cost the same now and also use the same processors and can play DVD-A.
