Resampling Question
« on: September 02, 2003, 04:10:55 PM »
What Interpolation Accuracy should I use?  SoundForge has 1-4.  4 being the highest.

Also, why when I resample from 48 to 44.1 does it change the overall length of the clip?

not sure about sf question, prolly the highest, im guessing, but as to the latter, yes, it changes the size ever so slightly... 8)

is it changing the length of the clip or the size of the file?  i don't understand why it would change the length of the clip (other than possibly by milliseconds).

i don't think i said what i meant very well...I was trying to ask whether he was saying that the file is shorter in lenght (before resampling it was 3mins, 30 secs and after it was 3 mins, 27 secs) or that the file size was smaller after resampling.

I wouldn't think that the first choice would happen, but i don't know if i've ever actually compared the files in that way after resampling.  the size of the file on your hard drive should definitely be smaller than the original file.

The size I'm sure changed but I am talking about the length of the clip.  Don't have exact numbers, but it dropped by several seconds on a 1.5 hour show.

The duration of the clip shouldn't change (of course the size must) but I suppose a second or two drift could occur on 1.5 hours.  Probably depends on the software's accuracy.

You're asking it to take 259 million samples and convert the same sound into 238 million samples.  Must take a few decimal places of accuracy to get that one right!

I record in 24/48 and then resample and Bit dither down to 16/44, but i use CD Wave Editor to Track out each, using the same exact Cue Sheet to put the trackmarks in.  I just compared a 24/48 and 16/44 of the same show(Untracked, so its the whole file)in CD Wave, and the are exactly the same in Length(time) up to the hundreth of a second.

I also use SF for my Resampling and Bit Dithering.
You want to have the Resample set to 4 (high), and also check the box to Apply the Anti-Alias filter during resample.
DO NOT check the other box for Set the Sample Rate Only.

Hope this helps.

I used the Anti-Alias but had the accuracy at 2(default).  I'll try 4 and see if the length comes out closer.  Wonder how much that will add to my resample time?
