26 AWG Teflon Insulated Cable
« on: March 21, 2007, 02:01:25 PM »
Could this cable be used for making XLR mic cables? Is there a down side to this type?

26 AWG Teflon insulated - brown - silverplated copper wire, stranded 7/34.
Military spec MIL-W-16878d Type ET rated for 250volts and 200 degrees centigrade.
RoHS compliant.

Thanks for any feedback.

I've always used 20 or 22 gauge... 18 is too big, 26 seems small.  By the discription it looks like single conductor wire. No shield. What you need is a twisted pair (2 cond) and a shield. (Three pins... Three conductors) People have talked about buying the shield (like metal techflex) and rolling their own with 3 wires  but that still leaves no outer jacket.

Thanks much! Boredom leads me to projects and I found a 1000 foot roll for about $20. Was not sure if this was a viable cable making option.

Thanks again.
