quick m248 question
« on: December 31, 2004, 01:04:58 PM »
** DISCLAIMER - I know that this could/should have been posted in the pre-amp section, but it is time sensitive **

Question - assuming you have access to a power source at the venue, could you run an Oade m248 with it plugged into its charger?

Reason for asking - the red light on the charger will not go off despite a day>overnight charging session. The m248 runs fine, but we're not sure for how long on its own. Need it to run apprx. 4 hrs tonight.

I am also emailing Doug Oade, but not sure if he will respond in time.

Thanks.

I asked Doug if I could run the m148 plugged in and he said not to do it.  Same most likely applies to the 248.

That may only be a recommendation and not damage anything, I do not know.  Good luck.

OK, thanks. Hopefully the charger light mechanism is just on the fritz.

from the weird cronicles...   :o

NYE this year for STS9 - so inniis thought the battery was f=ed up because it wouldn't go past 4 hrs.  then it dawned on me, we have an external powering option.  Mike Steffans wired this with the same type of panasonics and built an external plug.

have any of you guys seen the batteries, or does your m248 have this option?

just checking to see if it has been done before..

thanks

I dunno about that Todd, but I'm happy to report that the internal battery lasted the whole show. Also, Dug oade emailed me back and said that you shouldn't run an m248 off a charger as I had proposed.

I ran DJ's old 248 off an external batt for a show or two a few years ago.

my m248 had the external power mod. done to it. its the best of both worlds, having an internal or external power option. i was told that oade bros. did the mod.
