Topic: Cleaning bad XLR connections... Help needed...

So I had a few XLRs, that overtime the connections came undone, or I had to resolder the ends on different cables ect... Anyway, they now all make noise when they are plugged in. Im almost 100% sure that they do that because the XLR connections have been soldered so many times that the connections are just too dirty to work. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can clean the contacts so that they will work and not make noise? THANKS!

if thats the case, your best bet may be to just buy new 3-pins and start from scratch

or just undo those 3-pins and once theyre cleared of the wiring, use the heat and fling method, just heat the solder up thats prolly causing the problems, and fling away from you as quickly as possible

you can try some deoxidation spray stuff (DeOxit??)if it's the audio connections part that is the prob, if it's the solder connections part, you prolly just got to remove ALL solder and redo them.  Could be cold solder joints.

Go to RatShack and pick up a solder sucker Alex...

Heat up the solder work, suck it up, snip your wires to some clean surface past the previous solder and try again!

nick, those solder suckers are a PITA, i hated those in school

too bad the solder wick stuff wouldnt work well, actually alex, jsut go pick up a spool of that to get the majority off, it comes in a fishing spool type case.

all you do w/ that stuff is lay it over your connection, heat up, and the wick sucks up the old solder

I don't know how anyone can do without a solder sucker.
They are invaluable in my experience.

kick out the $10 and get some new connectors...take your time soldering them and you'll be ok...can't tape a show w/ shitty connectors...if you do you could be wasting your ticket $ and time AND still have to buy new connectors...if you have to skip a show to buy the conn. then do so.  You'll be glad you did.
