Question for the DIY Digi-Mod UA-5 People
« on: April 13, 2005, 07:18:29 AM »
I scored a UA-5 off eBay for only $155 yesterday. I can do the digi-mod myself, but I had one question for the DIY guys out there: any preference/experience/recommendations about removing R8 instead of cutting the line? From what I've read, both are ok and get that part of the job done, but I haven't really seen anything about which method is preferred.

well if you completely remove r8, it'll be a lot harder to reattach that, then to just solder the line back together if you ever want to revert it back to normal use.

Because nothing says "I have lots of money and am sort of confused as to how to spend it" like Bose.

I just cut mine and didn't think that it was too difficult.  But I've heard of some people on here having problems with it.  Use a really sharp exacto knife.

Thanks for the info. +T to the thread. I'll let you guys know if I have any problems, though it looks like a simple mod.

Got the WalMart special battery and Radio Shack cable today too. Will be a nice addition. Can't wait until I have the dough for some mics and do matrix recordings!

The circuit board was a little too small for my tastes, so I took it in to an electronics shop to have it professionally done. Didn't take much time, or cost much, and it works great! I ended up having him cut the line just like the instructions say.

Sorry for the total newbie question, but what's this mod for?

If I buy a stock UA-5, is there a reason it can't be used as is with a JB3?
