Another thing to consider, it is almost built for mac.  Support for this unit is built into the newest mac OS, so no drivers are needed.  There is a definite possibility that I will be getting my hands on one of these to test as well.  one other nice thing about 6 pin firewire.  It will power the FA-101, so no SLA required. I just picked up one of these myself.  My first trial will be SCI 7/29 and I'll do a w-mod ua-5 vs. fa-101 comparison.  I just learned that laptop pcmcia firewire cards can not supply bus power.  So you can not power the fa-101 off of a standard pcmcia firewire laptop card.  However this handy device will let you get power http://fwdepot.com/thestore/images/cfr-66p-01large.jpg. There are also some cards that have a dc input jack for power, so the bottom line is that you still have to lug a battery of some sort in the field.

Unless you were smart and bought a mac, in which case you'd have an onboard 6 pin firewire. ;)
