DIY 3-wire Bbox: bass roll-off options?
« on: March 26, 2008, 07:07:21 PM »
Sorry for this noob-ish question:

I picked up a DIY 3-wire Bbox (hyperplane style) in the yard sale, and it comes with two different sets of capacitors, for choice of bass roll-off at 15Hz or 150Hz.

I intend to run this with AT853s, terminated with mini-XLRs. The outgoing connector is a 3.5mm mini plug, that should goes to analog in on my H120. I normally tape fairly loud rock shows at small venues.

Which bass roll-off would be better for this rig?

If you're any good with electronics, please look at the actual schematics attached...

This b-box was built by user loul69, roughly based on the hyperplane schematics: http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,72994.0.html

Thanks,

/J

If it only has two settings, setup in front of your stereo at home, turn it up real loud, turn up the bass, and record some music at both settings. With only two settings,it should be apparent which one will probably sound better for a show.

T+, thanks!

Since it's a DIY project, only the 150Hz capacitors are actually inside the box. If I need to switch, I'd need to open the box and replace the capacitors manually. But your test procedure is a good start!
