Omni's vs. Subcard's. Opinions?
« on: May 02, 2005, 06:47:50 PM »
OK, I know they have different patterns but I was just informed that AT discontinued their omni caps for the 853's and now subcard is the only semi-close option to use up close. Any opinions for or against the subcard or omni in this case?

edit: the AT subcard's are 170º. how does this compare with the cardioid?

i think i saw a link on here for an aftermarket manuf for cards and omnis that will fit the at853.  bummer... i was looking to get a set of at omni caps... maybe i will just have to hunt down some hypers.  eh... or just use any of that quid for an open set of mics or a ua5 or [insert anything here]

hey Jerome, I'm in kind of the same spot you are, relative newbie with AT853's... I don't see any point in laying down more cash for a pair of open mics at this point, I think I'd be much better served getting experience and saving money for later when I can get a higher end set and know what I'm doing with it. I think these AT's will sound a lot better as I improve technique and placement, although I'm very happy with them already.

I did, however, just pic up a pair of hypers from Alpha sound & lighting, $56 for the pair, good deal.
