New Digi camera suggestions?
« on: April 09, 2004, 05:08:19 PM »
Looking at getting a new digi camera.  I currently have a Sony DSC-S30...it's about 3 years old and only 1.3 mp.

Been looking at the Fuji finepix s3000 and s5000.

Hoping to keep it around $4-500.

i love my canon powershot a80... it was around $400, 4megapixels, tons of options.... but the best thing about it is the little screen flips out and rotates, so you can hold the camera way above your head, tilt the screen down and see what you're taking a pic of...

examples of what it can do

I went here: http://www.amphotoworld.com/product.asp?id=fjfps7000
and picked up a Fuji Finepix S7000 for $399.00 but got $100.00 rebate from Fuji after pruchase. This is a great camera at a great deal!

I take that all back! I'm just now learing what the "grey market" is and I want no part of it. So far, the best deal I've found on the S7000 is $479.00 (after $100 rebate) from J&R Cameras.

I ended up going with B&H Photo at $484.00 AFTER $100 rebate. I cancelled the order with Amphoto, they looked shady too. Then placed the order with Express Cameras for $389.00 as their website said "Shop with confidence, all stock comes with full US warrenty". But after waiting a week after the order was placed, they still hadn't even shipped it yet so I cancelled the order. Buyer beware, there are hundreds of shady dot.com camera internet stores!

glad that B&H worked out for you.  they are pretty reliable. I have bought Nikon lenses from them for my N80. pretty good.  Its a shame you had to go through all that crap at first to get a solid deal online.... ::)

Checking out online sellers

If you're buying from an online retailer, always, always, ALWAYS check their reviews on resellers.com.  A couple minutes of reading can save you hours of stress.
