Topic: 16bit out of a R-4 when recording 24/96?

Is it possible?  I have a guy looking to patch a D-8 digitally out of my R-4 while running 24/96 a while back and had trouble getting it going.  He showed up right before the band started so I didn't really get a chance to try much but felt bad as I always try to accomodate patchers.  So I thoguht I'd ask so next time I might be ready.  I'm guessing the SPDIF out simply passes the PCM bitstream from the A>D convertor so it may not be possible, but I know someone here will have done it if it is.

it is my understanding that it is not possible to do that. When I've had DAT patchers in the past I've had to run 16/44 to get it to work.

From the R-4 manual:

You can connect an MD recorder or other device that has a digital input connector, and use it to record the
sound played back by the R-4.  The sampling frequency of the project you’re playing back will
be the sampling frequency of the audio that’s output from the
digital output connector.

dat can only handle 48k.    you would have to go analog out for it to work.
