Long trip/battery question
« on: January 26, 2005, 06:18:38 PM »
My friend and I are hitting the last half of YMSB winter tour and plan on taping the whole thing. Tofay, while thinking about the trip I realised we might have a problem. We plan on camping or sleeping in the car most nights in order to save money. So, most nights we won't have the ability to recharge batteries. I will be running Nak cm300>ua-5>D7. Any suggestions about the best possible battery solution to this situation. I plan on making the Naks active before the trip.

I would look at getting a inverter and plugging it into your vehicle
to let everything charge up while you are driving.
If the campground has an outlet you don't have a problem.
Good luck

Inverter is best bet, but I've seen solar chargers too.

go for the inverter...cig lighter plugs are usually rated for 3amps (check your fuse box) and if the car is traveling down the road you should have no issues w/ its Batt keeping up.  Some inverters have over voltage/current protectors.
So what do you both have to charge and how long of a drive between shows?
have fun

I'll put another vote for the inverter.  I've done exactly what you're about to do.  I used two SLAs (a 10AH and a 7.2AH).  I charged using the inverter while driving between shows.  Never had an issue.  Second battery was a backup incase I didn't have time to charge between two shows.  On the nights when you get a room, plug in there.  I was also a complete power whore where ever I stopped.  If I needed to complete a charge cycle, I would take the charger and battery inside while I was eating before a show and plug into an outlet near my table.
