Is it ok to use Lithium batteries (non-rechargables) in an R-09HR?

Is it better to just stick with Alkalines?

I get 9+ hours recording at 24/44.1 on two 2700mAh Sanyo NiMH batteries.  Not too shabby.

I got into a pinch and had to run lithiums a few weeks ago. Taped at 24/96 on both the edirol r-09HR and a tascam HD-P2 for a 4 band, 6 hour show and the battery indicators still showed full on both when I finally stopped taping.

lil pricy for all the time use though, rechargeable are the way to go when you don't forget them

I just got some of these, and wow they are impressive! Got over 10hours on my R-09 @ 24/44.1 on a pair.

ONLY issue with NiMH and Lithium is they give little warning before dropping out.  Best to keep track of hours and start looking for fast drop of battery indication on Lithium after 10 hours even though these can run over 12 hours depending on temperature and best time if kept in continuous services without more than a few hours break . 

Good news is deck can be set for rechargeable type giving better battery bar indications of capacity.

Lithium is best set in Alkaline type and seems to shut down the deck gracefully saving the file OK if run to end of capacity accidently.

I have a friend who swears by lithium dispoables in his r09hr.   Given the low-cost via mail order and the long life, the price-performance is Very good.

I have used NiMH's but they haven't been all that reliable as they age (and keeping track of newer vs. older ones is a drag).. I'm sure a better charger would help a lot.  So for critical shows, I've been turning to alkies.

Get some Sanyo eneloops and a LaCrosse BC-900 and you'll never have another problem. They power my R-09 for over 5 hours 2 weeks after being charged and they tend not to die on you after a year or 2 like a lot of NiMh's. The LaCrosse will give plenty of warning when they are getting weak and you can use it to recondition batteries so they last a lot longer.
