Possibly, Brian, but I have my doubts--the only way to know for sure is to do a bits compare after changing the header back to 48k.

How do you change the header?  Maybe I'll run a test tonight, but I don't know how to just up and change a header.

Ok, I figured it out--Brian, what you said would work.  What happens, is this:

Scenario:
-JB3 has started recording at 44.1 kHz
-JB3 is being fed a signal of 48 kHz

At this point, the JB3 is still recording the 48k signal bit for bit.  If you watch the seconds timer on the JB3, and compare it against real time, they are clocking faster (about 9/10 of a second).

Bottom line:  if you accidentally record your 48k signal at 44.1k, you haven't lost quality and all that you have to do is reorient your wave file somehow (I'm not sure how to do that).  Your digital signal has suffered an identity crisis.

guyz, how often should i format, if any???

i plan on dumping everything onto the HD once i get home or whatever from wherever im at,so would cleanup (defrag), be good enuf or should i format too after i  fill it up a good bit???

im used to seeing my windows drive fragmented beyond belief, so im jst wondering how often ya'll do whatever it is you do in the reset menu, cause i do my homepc all the time ;)

but whats the diff between the cleanup and format, i know format wipes EVERYTHING,so does cleanup just cleanup up unneccessarry(sp?) stuff ???thats what i believed

what i want to know is, should i format before i leave for ANY show??

thanks,
  bean

i don't really know the answer to this, and maybe i do it way too often, but i noticed that when i have a freshly formatted nomad i have no problems with my recordings.  however, when i had mp3s, another recording, or even if i had went a long time without formatting i'd get misplaced samples in my recording.  sometimes it'd just be one or two, sometimes it'd be everywhere in the recording.  so now i do it before every time i go taping, just for peace of mind.

that link i posted doesn't say if it is glass or plastic. Do you know what they use in their optical cables? Also, it seem to me that glass would be much more fragile; is this true? I would rather use plastic if it can handle bumps better.

it seems so, i would feel safer going plastic too, but in a studio or home setting, id go glass
