Question about Cambridge/Creative Playdock
« on: August 16, 2006, 11:14:50 AM »
I have a Cambridge playdock http://www.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=4&subcategory=29&product=31, that I purchased a few years ago for my Nomad JB3. The JB3 is connected to it for power and audio, the neat part being the power connection. I now have an ipod and while it's an easy connection for audio playback, the power connection, according to Cambridge will not function with an ipod. Basically just sit back and watch the ipod battery drain, which ruins it's purpose as a completely portable unit.

What I'm wondering is, can the ipod cable be hacked to connect to the playdock cable? Or is there a voltage problem? There is a 12V SLA in the playdock, so is there a converter in there to drop it down to 5 volts for the JB3? This playdock can power other MP3 players, just not an ipod, according to Cambridge. Haven't checked with Creative yet.

Another point to note is, my Playdock was bought from Creative and I believe it is specific to the JB3's power needs.

Maybe this belongs in Remote Power?
