Jb3 car charger
« on: October 29, 2005, 11:32:26 AM »
just found this the otherday . One of the Young guys that works for me brought his PSP in and a car charger for it. The nerd I am  ::) I noticed it had the same plug as the Jb3 and then I noticed it was 5volt 2A output.   :o

I have been running it for the past few hours to recharge my Jb3 from a 9v lithium . hope to run it back up at the upcoming Blues traveler show ... so i can do away with the sima and Initial voltage box's

here is a link to rat shacks page which shows the sales number although mine looks a bit different from the ones listed.

Confirmed! Bought one last night for $8! MY only issue is that  if I playback from the JB3 with this charger attached I get a "whine" that is almost overpowering at about 1K-5K. Has anybody else noticed this yet or does this happen with the Creative 12V?
Pockets full of nickels and nothing left to eat, and I'm stuck behind a semi on Soniat Street.

The "PSP car charger" steps down 12v to 5v 2000mh...so far it seems solid. The first initial test for me seemed successful.

Just for the record any PSP charger will do. As they are all gonna step it down from 12v to 5v. I don’t see the use in supporting Sony as your paying double simply cause it has the Sony name on it.

I have 2 different ones from wally world (pictured) and one from radio shack (not pictured) and both provide 5v 2000 mAh

Here is a pic the one I am currently running.

I found out by accident that the JB3 and PSP have the same voltage and plug, because I accidentally plugged my psp in to my jb3 charger, and didn't notice it was the wrong charger until hours later.  Thank goodness it didn't fry the PSP!

So yeh a PSP car charger should work fine.

My goal was obtain the most inexpensive version locally. I looked for a about a week at various stores around here and the cheepest was the $12 "Sony" at the Endicott K-Mart. Maybe I was taxed a bit for the "Sony", but it looked to me that it was pretty well constructed and may potentially last longer that other brand versions.

All of them are about the same, just different prices. The only exception is the "i-go", which has a minature transformer in the tip itself, when the other brands have the transformer box built into the cable. I don't think we can purchase the "Wally World" brand around here. "Madcats" makes one also, but I believe it's only packaged in combination with other PSP excessories for $30. The Rat Shack around here only has the $30 "i-go" brand it seems.

Kevin I just got back from RS and bought one for 4.95 on clearance. They got one more in the mall. Its the Pelican car charger. SWEETNESS. This will work great with our RS batteries we have. Have you tested how long they will run the JB3 for? LMK.

Whoa, good score!

Hahaha.. we're getting off topic though...

IF the average current draw of the NJB3 is in fact 600 mA and the RS power stations are 7AH(assuming only 80% efficiency), per the archival info thread on calculating battery run-timehttp://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=2460.0,
( Battery Capacity [mAH] / Current Draw [mA] ) * ( .80 ) it's
( 7000 mAH / 600 mA ) * (.80) = 9.3333333333 hrs.
Not sure if the power adapter itself will effect my run-time estimation, but I was planning to test it out tonight or tomarrow to confirm.
