Dead Ecocharge battery replacement?
« on: April 12, 2006, 01:47:31 PM »
A buddy had an ecocharge battery die last night.  Any suggestions for replacing just the battery?

I suggested he take it apart and head over to the local battery store with the original.

Thanks!

It's a sealed lead acid battery. There's not really a "drop in" replacement to be had; and taking it apart would be messy and potentially dangerous.

I'm pretty sure the top cover is re-usable. You'll just need to find another SLA to put it on.
Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.

I picked up his dead ecocharge last night..  And it just appears to be an SLA. Nothing fancy. I  figured there would be some charger electronics but those are apparently all external.  He must have pulled the cover off.

I am hoping to replace it with a generic sla.  But I understand you need to be careful about this.. The chargers for regular SLAs and AGM SLAs are a little different.  This one is labeled non-spillable so it should be okay..

Get the model # and look on eBay. They sell cheap, but watch the shipping charges. Batteries Plus has them, but are more expensive there.

I've made several of these. Just change the fuse to a 3amp and solder an xlr on to the end of that cable.

Run a exacto blade around the plastic cover from the bottom... pop that sucker off. go to the battery store and buy the SLA you need... just plug the connectors to the 1/4 spades... a little epoxy and let the cover set... viola. I've "rebuilt" many eco-charge battries.
