pre in front of an ad1k?
« on: December 07, 2002, 11:07:45 PM »
So I was thinking about putting a mp2 in front of the ad1k to go with my mbho's?  Any thoughts about whether the difference would be a noticeable improvement in sound?

Thanks

Daryan

hard to say with the MBHOs...best thing to do is try it out...
only you can be the final judge...

fellow Wisco Taper ran MBHOs> MP-2> AD2K for a couple years...
can't say it was ever my favorite setup, but it's all up to personal opinion anyway...

i run MP-2 in front of my MME, but that's with Neumann 140s...
may be a totally different deal with 1K and MBHOs...

TRY IT!...

When you test it, make sure to change the dipswitches... you want to turn off the pre in the adk completely to do an accurate test.

I ran an MP-2-->SBM-1 with my MBHO's (before I got my schoeps). The mp-2 can add some nice warmth to a recording, but I found the bottom end to be sloppy, a lot of people like the transformer sound of the mop-2

here we go again jonny.  V2>AD1000, best combo out there right now.  dont let jonny tell you any different. HAHA  a pre in front of the 1000 is nice but i dont know if the mp2 is the right choice.  might make it a bit sloppy, and boomy.  get a V2.  i agree with creekfreak on the slop factor.

Let me clarify ry's remark about the v2... ive listened to a shit ton of tapes now with v2's in em.  i dislike small diaphragm neumanns with the v2.  I know nothin about hte mbhos :-)

The Mbho's are very good mics for the money, great clarity and very clean highs, not much on the low end hence the reason I got rid of them and upgraded to some schoeps, same upper end clarity with warm, detailed bass. I ran my V2 with the MBHO's, sounded nice when combined with my modsbm-1. But right now my schoeps and mini-me sound pretty damn good.

definately can't agree with V2> AD1K as best goin' right now...
shit son, you ain't even in 24 Bit-land yet!...=)

just kiddin'...
what mics ya runnin' with V2> 1K phriendly?...

also havta agree with jonny...not a fan of V2 w/ small diaphram Neumanns...they need a lil help "warmth wise" to bring out that Neumann sound...

hence the reason i run MP-2 in front of MME...

and a Heads Up:

PACKERS are gettin' SPANKED!...
just too bad it's the Vikes doin' it not Da Bears...   :'(

only end of 3rd Qtr though...
plenty of time for Favre to wake up...hehe...

I am working on making a 2 channel mic pre using 2 Neve 33114s. Althought they are 24v, I am trying to make a system to power them off 1 12v. It's gonna be a big thing to lug, but will be interesting to put infront of the 1000 ro for m home studio!
