Title: best/cheap av converter to firewire 400 or 800

I am converting my audio and video collection to hard drive. i am using a mac with firewire 400. I was using a promax da-max+, but it just crapped out. I also have beta pcm tapes. It would be great if the unit would accept digi audio in also. any ideas? thank you in advance.
