is it good for big concert as U2's ones

Get yourself a pair of At-853 from sound-pro.  I highly recomend them.  They were my first mics.  the caps are interchangable. I recomend a set of cards for stand use and omnis for head-worn recording.  Make sure you also get a battery box as well.  This will allow you to go line in and record loud sound pressures without over-loading  your MD.  This would be a great place to start! hey and have fun!

Actually... my friend back in 1990.. he recorded a show In Houston at the Woodlands Pavillion... I think it was called? with Panasonic mics that look just like it. and the recording came out top notch. I will try and post samples when I get a copy from the Master tape soon.

no, the mic alone won't do the job.

Yes I agree you will need a roll of if your way back, but if your in the first, say 15 rows, you may not.  This is the optimum area for omni's any further back I would go with cards on a stand. again it all depends on the acoustics and who's mixin.   Definately get a batt. box.  the plug in power on a recorder doesn't give enough juice to the mics to handle loud sound pressures, they only send about 1.5 vlts.  a Batt. box will send about 9vlts.  just using the mics with out a box your dynamic range will be around 90db, with one it will be around 109 db and handle an spl of 125 to 130db.  This is what you need for loud rock/blues/jam band music, assuming thats what your going for.

No the first 15 rows or so will be the cleanest sound area for omni recording.  This is where the Pa. tends to be the loudest and least amount of Boom and the least directionality.   This is where you find the most amount of people in the sweet spot. Once you get further back that is where you are dealing with the boominess.  The boominess is caused by the sound boucning off of the structures walls.  It all depends.  Acoustics are a bitch, but the first few rows are where the room tends to be taken out of the equation, its just raw PA. power.  I like using omnis up close because the are the most forgiving to head movement and tend not to have any proximinity effect(increase in bass ussually assoc. with cards).  However, its when you are recording from the back that is when you want the cards, preferably on a stand.  These take the room out of the equation by their directional pattern, hypers take even more of the room out and the reverse is true for sub cards which are between an omni and a card. pattern, they add room acoustics.  The thing to remember is every room is different, as well as every Pa. is different, its always a crap shoot, but if you use the above info as a starting point you should come away with a good recording...........I hope all this info helps and just doesn't add to any confusion.................................JK

you might consider getting the $25 battery box in order to get rid of the distortion problem :

Depending on how close the first row is to the stage you may want to be between the 5th and 10th row.  you want to be infront of the Pa.'s as opposed to the side of them.  alot of times the first row is between the stacks and you don't get the full volume because its going past you, thats why I recomend being back just a few rows.  but If we are talking a stadium set up you will be a little further back from the stage with Pa's all around you even if you in the front row....Oh yah and have fun!
