AT853's: what mount do you use?
« on: June 03, 2005, 11:58:19 AM »
I've been thinking about this: http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/SP-DTS-11 but it looks like the mics would be spaced too far apart for the traditional ORTF, DIN, NOS and XY type patterns. Any other/similar suggestions? Thanks.....

i use those plastic tube things that came with my at853's... i did a little DIY vert bar action and can get practically all kinds of positions (except i dont think i can get xy, unless i use the spreader bar).

Audix SMT-MICRO mounts work pretty well. They're a little tight but if your careful it'll be fine. Search: Audix SMT-MICRO mounts should find something.

I'm using tensimounts and making a DIY t-bar http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=42151.0, should be pretty nice!

Those at853 holders with this t-bar:
Adjustable positioning stereo microphone bar for top of mic stand.  Length 8.5 inches. $26
Maybe a couple of small scratches, but thats because these mics are chick magnets.
Girls always up on Andy tryin to grab these mics, the scratches are from their wedding rings.

I use the same T-bar with Audix SMT-Micro mounts. The Audix mounts provide no shock protection and are a pain in the ass imo. The rubber part of one of mine is coming apart. I guess they're cheap enough that it's not that big of an issue....However it would be nice if somebody would make a cost-effective low profile shockmount for the AT's... or a some sort of Kwon-like bar.

Also there are some DPA mounts that work but are way too expensive ($100+ I believe) for me.

Does anyone know if it's possible to use different (i.e. bigger) windscreens with this mount?

I think this is my windscreen (AT 8117)

Exactly what I was wondering. I have this mount and would like some bigger screens, but don't think the AT8117's will fit as the opening doesn't appear wide enough. Maybe some Shure, DPA or other AT windscreens? Plus furry rats, of course. ;)

those look too big...they look like Sabra shock mounts too...which I'm not very fond of. I'd still like to see your pics...
